Welcome to my website!

I play a variety of different bass (and double bass) string instruments.

In 2002 I started a concert series in Walthamstow, London E17 - Music in the Village.

On my 'LECTURES' page you can find a concise note for composers who are writing new music for old instruments.

For St James' Baroque  I play violone and violone grosso, and sometimes large bass violin.

Here are London Viols, a group I decided to start in 2016, rehearsing at St. Michael and All Angels in Walthamstow, London E17.

The Swedish nyckelharpa is my latest passion!  If it didn't already exist, we would have to invent it.

For twenty four years, I was the bass player for the English Concert.  In 2003 I volunteered myself to manage St. James' Baroque and ended up running it ever since.  Be careful what you volunteer for!

Amazing virtuoso guitarist Xuefei Yang returned to Music in the Village in November and played  a wonderful programme including Manuel de Falla, Rodrigo, Albeniz, Granados, Ricardo Niño, Paco Pena and music from China, her homeland.

Xuefei is simply in a class of her own!

Next concert January 22nd -

outstanding harpsichordist, Tom Foster.

St. James' Baroque joined  the wonderful Westminster Abbey choir  and then excellent Cardinal Vaughan School choir during December for really terrific performances of  Handel's Messiah!

Two new concerts for Music in the Village 2019-20:

February 26th - Gail Hennessy and colleagues play beautiful Baroque music on historical instruments

March 18th - The Fitzwilliam String Quartet,

This is the keyboard of my Collard & Collard square piano - made shortly after 1827 when loop stringing was patented, and after the death of Clementi.
