On my 'LECTURES' page you can find a concise note for composers who are writing new music for old instruments.

For St James' Baroque  I play violone and violone grosso, and sometimes large bass violin.

Here are London Viols, a group I decided to start in 2016, rehearsing at St. Michael and All Angels in Walthamstow, London E17.

Anna Alcock is the Artist in Residence for Music in the Village.

For twenty four years, I was the bass player for the English Concert.  In 2003 I volunteered myself to manage the ensemble too and ended up running it for twelve years.  Be careful what you volunteer for!

Just finished [February 5th] an edition of Carissimi's Jepthte from the score Marc-Antoine Charpentier copied out, presumably when he was studying with Carissimi around 1677.  Most editions are an amalgam of available sources but Charpentier's score seems worthy of performance in its own right.  Once friends & colleagues have torn my work apart, I will upload it to IMSLP.  More anon.  Bigger job that I had in mind when I started it!

Concerts in March and May  2019 will take place at St. Michael & All Angels,  Northcote Road  E17 6PQ.

Those concerts will be on Wednesday nights.

Gail Hennessy has put together a beautiful programme for Music in the Village, Gems of the Baroque Era with music by Vivaldi, Tlemann and Valentini.  Joined by  John Crockatt and Karin Laks - violins, Geoff Irwin - viola,  Joseph Crouch - cello and Pawel Siwczak - harpsichord.
